Richard Zimmerman, best known as a hermit called Dugout Dick, lived along the Salmon River, photographed on Sunday, May 9, 2021, in Salmon, Idaho. He created a series of dugouts, cabins and an orchard, and charged visitors to tour the property and stay in a cabin. He was a squatter until the Bureau of Land Management granted him a lifetime lease. One of his cabins has been preserved and can be found along Loening Road. (© 2021 Cindi Christie/Cyanpixel)
