I have been a newspaper photographer and photo editor in the San Francisco Bay Area and now live in eastern Idaho.

My involvement with digital photojournalism began 1989. After being a student at the first NPPA Electronic Photojournalism Workshop, I joined the faculty and organizers for the remaining eight years and later the Visual Edge workshop co-sponsored by NPPA and the Poynter Institute.

A native Minnesotan, I attended St. Cloud State University and was editor of the student newspaper, the Chronicle. Much later in life, I became one of the Knight Fellows at Ohio University’s School of Visual Communication, where I earned my MA.

  1. Your photos of the closure of Portola School in Livermore, California appeared in the “Tri-Valley Herald” on June 11, 2010. I saved a clipping. Just three shots were published, but they nicely encapsulated the closure of the 48 year-old school where I spent four years in the early 1980s.

  2. Hello Jason,
Thank you for writing. I have been away from my website as we moved out of state. Your comment made me smile. I remember that day. I covered several school closings in Livermore, which was always sad. I think the teachers and staff tried to make the day fun for everyone.
    Best regards,
    Cindi
